#6 Photographer // Tempei Takeuchi

Photographer Tempei Takeuchi. I got to know him via Instagram and I was fully impressed by his play with light and shadow which gives his photos a unique and dramatic atmosphere. His photography shows the power and fascination of freeskiing and snowboarding.

Tempei was born in Tokyo, Japan, and moved to Squamish, British Columbia, Canada in 2008. Discover some of his works, read my feature and visit his webpages. I am happy to share it with you!

Focus of work:
I love mountains, especially in winter. They look more simple when they are covered with snow. Lines made by snow on mountains are really beautiful and powerful, and I want to express the beauty in my frame. When I could combine those lines with humans, it becomes more powerful. That is what I am looking for in my photography: Seeking a frame which skiers/snowboarders match perfectly into a landscape.

Located in:
Year around in Squamish, BC Canada

Personal statement/philosophy:
I have never thought of this topic, but these may fit to my way of living.
“Simple is the best” and “Start something and finish it!”
When I have too many things in my life, even a thing doesn’t go well.
I try to keep it simple.

Favorite ski spot:
Cayoosh Pass near Pemberton, BC

My best adventure/photoshoot yet:
Yukon/Alaska ski trip in 2016.

I teamed up with my friends and went for a month long ski trip. There were so many challenges. It started with unexpected super warm weather on day one… It warmed up and rained on where our first photo shoot was in… Therefore, we had to change the location. We drove 500km from Whitehorse, YT to Tombstone territorial park to ski and shoot. There were almost no informations of the place, so we just went there believing there is something… At the end, it turned out awesome! This trip brought me two photography competition awards at Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival.

Person I would like to photograph:
Anyone who really puts their time into something and love it.

Place I would like to photograph:
Patagonia, Fitz Roy Massif. I want to photograph and climb it.
